New Roof FundJanuary 27, 2023
Dear fellow members of Immanuel, Eighty-nine years ago, our grandparents and great-grandparents made the decision to put on a new roof to protect the sanctuary of Immanuel Lutheran Church. And protect it has, as our sanctuary is in great shape to this day. That roof has valiantly withstood the winds and rain and ice and snow that has attacked it all these years. But it is finally wearing down and in need of replacing. This letter comes to you, dear members of Immanuel, to let you know that a new roof will be installed over our sanctuary this summer, and to invite you to financially participate in the completion of this project. At our annual meeting on January 22, 2023, you all voted to go forward with the roofing project and to conduct a capital campaign that, along with money from our reserve funds, will pay for this project. The new roof will be steel, but will amazingly look like shaker shingles, and it comes with a fifty-year guarantee. Our hope is that, like its predecessor, this roof will last long beyond its expected life and it will be our great-great grandchildren that are having the discussion on replacing it a century or so from now. The cost for the roof is about $109,000. To that, the council felt money should be added incase other issues arise when the old roof is removed. So the project was set at $120,000. The motion at the annual meeting was to set the total at $132,000 so that we can set 10% aside for a gift to a brand new congregation who is building its first building – an offering of thanks for how much God has blessed us over the years and for mission to enable the good news of Jesus to be shared and lived all over the world. The plan is that the appeal to the congregation will raise one-third or more of the project, and that our capital improvement and new building funds will be utilized to provide the other two-thirds. And so, as your council, we invite you to help us fund our new roof in whatever manner you are able. Enclosed is a “Raise the Roof Pledge Form” which offers you a number of ways to participate. Whether you have the means to provide a check up front, that it works better for your financial situation to make a one or two year pledge, or you’d like to do a combination of the two, any amount you are able to provide for this project will be much appreciated. Remember that this is your church and your church building where you live out your faith with your fellow members of Immanuel. The size of the project may seem daunting at first sight, but when we realize that we are all in this together, this should not be a difficult goal to achieve at all. Thank you so much for your faithfulness to your Lord and to Immanuel Lutheran Church. It’s because of all of you that we continue to go forth with the gospel of Jesus. Sincerely, Immanuel Lutheran Council Kirk Ross, Bob Kromm, Randy Schlesinger, Sarah Goetz, Kim Menzel, Brad Ehlers, Pastor Jeff Schlesinger |
